TUESDAY, OCTOBER 2ND 2007 Hello. We are deep into mixing our third record - which is going very well. We are looking at a January/February release show in Minneapolis at the Cedar. On Friday, Oct. 12th we will be joining 'Painted Saints' at the Varsity Theater for their cd-release show. Paul Fonfara (clarinet) of the Painted Saints is the latest member of Swsco. and we are very excited to be joining his group at the Varsity. Hope to see you there. ~TUESDAY, JANUARY 2ND 2007 Happy New Year!
Nicholas, Ethan and myself are hard at work putting together our next record. We begin recording in March at Wild Sound studio in Minneapolis and will continue to record through the spring. Aside from the three of us, there will be some very talented musicians joining us in the studio and on stage in the coming year. We'll be setting up a page on this site devoted to this new record and it will be a way for you to see what we are up to in the studio and perhaps hear some rough tunes. Our last release, 'Quiet Mob ep' is still available and next week our 2004 first release 'Do Right By People' will be available as well for the first time in over a year. It will be available from this site and in Minnesota record stores as well as on itunes. ~Tuesday September 12th, 2006~ Three years running at the MMA's.... We have been nominated for the third year in a row for a Minnesota Music Award as Eclectic Artist of the year. Last year at the 25th Annual MMA awards we picked up this honor. For the 26th annual award show we are again in the same catagory alongside some fantastic groups. This is also found on our PRESS page or you can click right here... We are spending our Spring working with Live Action Set for the Momentum: New Dance Series. This project is commissioned by the Walker Art Center and Southern Theater, and will feature the musicians as characters alongside the performers of Live Action Set. The shows will run this summer from July 28th-30th. Aside from that, we will be playing around the twin cities in April and May. Check the schedule page for all the details. We are hard at work on material for our next record and will be debuting these new songs this Spring. ~Tuesday, January 3rd, 2006~ Happy New Year! It is hard to believe that we have been around for 2 years as a group. This past year has been the most rewarding for us as we had the chance to play on some incredible stages with some very talented musicians and released our first ep as a quartet. Don't forget to go to the Minnesota Music Awards Wednesday, Sept. 21st. Spaghetti Western String Co. has been nominated for the second year in a row in the 'Eclectic' catagory. Many live performances by Minnesota's finest musicians. Cross your fingers! This Friday, Sept. 23rd, Spaghetti Western String Co. will be on Radio K's OFF THE RECORD show at 4pm. You'll be stuck in traffic, so why not tune in. 770AM / 106.5 FM (West Mpls Metro). On September 30th, our very own Ethan Sutton (Cello) will be getting married and we couldn't be happier for him. Quiet Mob Ep to be released on October 4th. It will be available to purchase from this website as well as in independent music stores in Minnesota.~Monday, August 16th, 2005~ As we take some time off in August to organize ourselves for fall/winter, we hope you are enjoying the dog days of summer. We had a great time in July traveling around the midwest and will probably post some photos of the trip in this site soon. Expect a slight change in this site as we begin to promote our upcoming EP, Quiet Mob. We are looking at an October 4th release date with an EP release show scheduled at the Cedar Cultural Center in Minneapolis on Friday, October 14th, 2005, with our friends, The Pines . Until then...we are performing live only twice, on September 15th at the Mill City Museum in Minneapolis, and at the Fine Line on September 17th for a Minnesota Music Academy benefit show. Remember to care for your stringed instruments - too much humidity can be just as bad as the dryness of winter. That's our tip of the day. The group is hard at work on their score for 'The Red Balloon,' as well as finnishing up mixing of the EP. We should have a title in a week or so to share with you. We are also very close to finishing our summer tour plans. They will be announced real soon, but I can tell you that we have decided to stick with the Midwest this summer, and are visiting the great cities of St. Louis, Kansas City, and Chicago, plus many more. Please come out, especially if you havn't been to the Varsity Theater yet! ciao for now, mike ~Saturday, May 7th, 2005~ Last night Denise, Nicholas and Mike joined The Pines onstage at the 400 bar as their backing band on four of their tunes. It was a mighty fine time and we thank them for having us. We love suprise guests. Good stuff, good stuff. We are mixing our forth-coming EP, working on new material, including an original score to 'The Red Balloon,' a 1956 French film by Albert Lamorisse, as well as making plans for our tour out west this July. We will update the schedule page real soon with shows in May and June. ciao, for now.~Sunday, April 24th, 2005~ Early Sunday morning. We have been locked down in Third Ear Studios in Minneapolis, for the last two days, and about to start day three. The recording this weekened has been exhausting on us, but the results so far are fantastic. In their raw state, these songs are sounding mighty fine - thanks to our crack crew of engineers working day and night and some superb performances by the group. Bella luna! Tonite's full moon gave great inspiration to a beautiful song and some amazing vocal work by Nicholas. We can't wait to get this new EP out to you. Thanks to Fiamma Fumma for the fantastic performance at the Cedar on Saturday night. We had such a good time opening the show and it was such a pleasure to talk with them. We'll perform the score at an outdoor film & music festival held June 18th: Solstice Festival near Stillwater, MN. It could be an excellent opportunity to promote your film, and gain exposure. Seven shows in April, including an encore performance of our original score to GRASS (The 1934 documentary), recording of our second record, and of course writing and working new material. Our LIVE performance of 'Muggins,' (a song which will be on our new record), will appear on a limited edition vinyl for 89.3 The Current. The record, a gift to support their first fund drive, is a collection of the in-studio performances that the Current has done since their start this past January including many local Minnesotan acts. For those who missed our performance of the original score we penned for 'Grass,' the 1934 documentary epic set in Persia, we will be performing live with the film again on APRIL 9th at the Suburban World Theater in Uptown, Mpls, for the annual International Film Festival. We have entered the comfort of Minor7 studios and begun the recording for our new EP release. I can reveal that the disc will have 6 new compositons on it, many of which we have been performing live. This is our first release as a four-piece string band. We have put the electronics in the closet for a bit. However, rumor has it that Nicholas will be lending his italian tenor voice to the record. We are VERY excited about these tunes and can't wait till they are available to the public. (April release date scheduled) We thank all those that came to the Tin Hat Quartet performance. We had an incredible time and enourmous thanks to the Tin Hat Quartet for a night of fantastic music and for being so kind.
